Programme Highlights
Published in April 2017,
the new “Code of Practice for Foundations 2017” is an updated version to the code
promulgated in 2004. The 2017 Code introduce new contents such as the use of
limit state design for steel pile sections, the determination of bearing
capacity by the bearing capacity equation, the use of shear piles and
continuous flight auger piles. In addition, criteria such as quantified limits
of settlements and lateral movements of foundations, the use of plate load
tests, G.I., parameters in determination of resistance of uplift of piles have
been added or revised.
Summing up, the additions
and revisions clarify the acceptable practices by the Buildings Department and
some of them are the current acceptable practices.
