Programme Highlights
The previous International Mail Centre (IMC) in Hung Hom was relocated
due to the Sha Tin to Central Link Project, providing an opportunity for an
amalgamation of the IMC and the sorting office of the General Post Office (GPO)
in Central at the new Central Mail Centre (CMC) in Kowloon Bay. The six-storey
CMC commenced its full operation in October 2014. Its building design achieved
the Gold Standard of the Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method (HK-BEAM)
for New Buildings, by adopting various green features to maximize energy efficiency
and minimize environmental impacts throughout the construction and operation. The
CMC is also equipped with advanced sorting technologies to enhance the
efficiency of mail processing and postal operation.
The visit will introduce the mail processing workflow, advanced sorting technologies
(i.e. Automatic Culler-Facer-Cancellers and Optical Video Coding Integrated
Systems), and green building design with HK-BEAM Gold rating.
