Programme highlights Accumulation of marine debris is a serious and worsening problem in marine and coastal environments of not only Hong Kong, but also worldwide. In order to improve the water quality in our coastal area and to promote environmental education to young engineers, the YMC and Green Council jointly organised the international coastal cleanup 2008 (ICC). Volunteers will record the types of debris that they have collected during the ICC. The records will then be analysed by ICC coordinators, ie Green Council for Hong Kong, to identify the major sources of debris and the activities that attribute to the problem. These analysed result will be used for educating the public, business, industrial and government authorities on the basis that understanding the problem is the key to coming up with long-lasting solutions.
