Programme
Highlights
The visit is the local series of Overseas
Delegation 2017 to Iceland “Climate Change: the Happening”.
T-PARK was
designed by internationally renowned French architect Claude Vasconi. The
streamlined and wave‐form design was inspired by the surrounding sea and hills,
with the best use of sunlight, natural ventilation and green roofs to minimise
energy consumption.
The unique self-sustained facility is aiming to achieve the BEAM
Platinum rating. It combines a variety of advanced technologies with
recreational, educational and ecological features in a single complex.
T-PARK is remote
from residential areas yet accessible by land and sea, while maintaining a
minimum impact to the environment. T-PARK receives sludge from 11 major Sewage
Treatment Works throughout the territory. Around 70% of sludge is delivered
from the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works by sea.
Sludge is stored in sealed containers and transported to the adjacent
West New Territories Landfill jetty before final delivery to T-PARK by trucks. This largely reduces the loading
of road traffic and its impact on the environment. When the two turbines in T ·
PARK are running at their full capacity, they can generate electricity and
produce surplus power of up to 2 megawatts that can be exported to power up
4,000 households.
The visit will feature the following attractions: T-Gallery, T-Corner,
T-Sky, T-Theatre, T-Habitat, T-Cafe, T-Roof, T-Garden, T-Spa and T-Hall. Participants will experience the power of
waste-to-energy technology and the remarkable features in T-Park.
