Programme Highlights
Harbour
Area Treatment Scheme (HATS) is a 2-stage project with an aim of improving the
water quality of Victoria Harbour. Being the largest environmental
infrastructure in Hong Kong, HATS is designed to serve a population of 5.7
million with design capacity of 2.45million m3/day at average dry
weather flow (ADWF) condition.
Initiated
in 1980s with staged implementation and review, Stage 2A of HATS achieved full
flow-turning and operation in end 2015. At present, sewage from both sides of
the Victoria Harbour is collected and treated, leading to considerable
improvement of Victoria Harbour water quality and marine environment. Re-opening
of beaches in Tsuen Wan in 2011, resumption of cross-harbour swimming race and
dragon boat race over the past years, and future water sporting and
recreational activities, etc. are all enabled mainly through the implementation
of HATS.
