Programme HighlightsJointly Organized
with the Association of Engineering Professionals in Society (AES) and the
Association of Engineering Professionals in Society - Young Engineers in
Society (AES-YES), this technical visit to the nuclear power station is the
first nuclear power plant in operation in Chinese mainland. The visit will
enable participants to understand the operation of a nuclear plant producing
clean energy. 80% of the nuclear energy produced by this plant is supplied to
Hong Kong.
The
participants may:
- Understand the fundamental principles of
nuclear power generation: nuclear fission in the reactor core heats water
to produce steam, which drives turbines to generate electricity — without
burning fossil fuels.
- Appreciate the functional separation
between the nuclear island (reactor and safety systems) and the
conventional island (turbines and generators) through models, exhibits, or
guided explanations.
- Learn more about the role of nuclear
energy as a stable, low-carbon baseload power source, producing zero
carbon emissions during operation and effectively complementing
intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
Transportation
will be arranged by shuttle bus. Successful applicants will assemble and be
dismissed at Kowloon Tong MTR Station; detailed arrangements will be provided
in due course.
