Programme Highlights
Desalination, which is not
susceptible to the impact of climate change, is a strategic water resource to
cope with the rising demand on freshwater due to population and economic growth
in Hong Kong. Water Supplies Department has been exploring the latest
development in desalination technology and actively looking for the best
alternative to produce potable water in Hong Kong. Tseung Kwan O Desalination
Plant will adopt reverse osmosis technology, with a water production capacity
of about 135,000 cubic metres (m3) per day, The plant is also designed for
future expansion to the ultimate water production capacity up to 270,000m3 per
day when necessary which will cater for 5% to 10% of the overall fresh water
demand in Hong Kong. The first stage of the plant will be implemented under a
Design-Build-Operate contract arrangement.
A presentation will be given to the participants on the project
introduction and highlights, followed by a guided tour of the site to
understand the site overview and daily operation.
