Programme HighlightsThe Murray was originally named as ‘’Murray
Building’’. It was designed by the then Public Works Department and completed
in 1969. The building was 27 storeys tall, being the tallest government
building at the time. It once hosted the headquarters of many important policy
bureaus and governmental departments.
Murray Building comes with special architectural interest. Its windows
were meticulously oriented to avoid intrusion of excessive direct sunlight, and
the building is surrounded by major roads on all sides, with its vehicular
entrance neatly knitted into the steep Cotton Tree Drive. Following the
relocation of its current offices to new Central Government Complex at Tamar in
2011, the old government office building was then converted into a hotel, which
becomes The Murray of today.
The visit will introduce the building’s heritage
and history, the background of the conversion project, as well as its
architectural features which won the Certificate of Merit of the Energy
Efficient Building Award in 1994, through presentation and a walk-along tour.
