Technical Visit to Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel

Date, time & venue

2023-03-18;9:00am - 12:30pm;Kai Tak

Programme Highlights

The Trunk Road T2 and the Cha Kwo Ling (CKL) Tunnel, together with the Central Kowloon Route (CKR) and the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT), will form the Route 6. The Route 6 is going to be a strategic transport route that substantially helps reduce the current journey time between Yau Ma Tei and Tseung Kwan O.

For the 3.4km dual two-lane trunk roads to be constructed in this project, one of the key tunnel construction methods is the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) excavation. Adopting TBM can minimise disturbance to the seabed and the operation if surrounding coastal facilities. The two 14m-diameter TBM concurrently have several innovative technologies including accessible TBM cutter head, real-time monitoring of disc cutters, and AI supported tunnel drone inspection.

In this event, participants will be given a briefing on the project introduction and construction technology highlight. The briefing will be followed by a guided tour into the tunnel to understand the site overview and daily operation.

**This event is open to a Best Reporter Award. The best report will be chosen by the hosts and 500HKD will be awarded to the winner. For details, please refer to the “HKIE YMC Rules of Best Reporter Award”.
