Programme Highlights
As a young engineer, we apply our creativity and knowledge to solve challenging problems in our daily work basis, but have you ever thought of practicing your engineering abilities in daily life and helping the children in underprivileged families?

After two successful projects in Tsuen Wan and Tokwawan area, HKIE-YMC Community Services Group continues to support the three-day project “Brighten Children’s Home Project” organized St. Jacobs’ Settlement. The target area this time is Sham Shui Po, which is believed to be our greatest ever challenge.

In this 3-day project, our target is to help children and parents from underprivileged families in Sham Shui Po, creating a proper and safe study environment at their homes. The participants will work in groups (2-4 people) and be responsible for 2-3 families. This project also requires the participants to attend three consecutive Saturdays in December and the detail is shown below:

Date Activity Purpose
Date Activity Purpose
1 Dec Gathering and Home Visits To know each other and understand the difficulties the families are facing, e.g. Lack of light and study space
8 Dec Planning and Procurement To design, plan and procure the suitable materials and furniture, e.g. Lamp, DIY desks, shelf
15 Dec Home practicum Put the plan into practice with the family members

This project will surely be a meaningful opportunity for you to experience the study difficulties of children in underprivileged families and apply your professional skills in real life. More importantly your help will inspire the children and possibly bring a huge positive impact to them in the future. Please come and join us as a volunteer, and you are welcome to join with your other YMC friends together to form your own work group (state it in the remarks section of the application form). It is expected that participants should join at least 2 days (Please indicate your availability in the “Remarks” of the application form, while the first and the third day is usually more critical).
