Technical Visit to CLP System Control Centre at Tai Po

Programme Highlights


Located in Strafford House at Tai Po, CLP System Control Centre (SCC) is one of the most advanced power system control centre in the world. It is the operation nerve of Hong Kong's largest electricity supplier, CLP Power (Hong Kong) Limited, which supplies nearly 80% of local power needs. The Control Centre is responsible for safe, secure and efficient operations of the power grid, ensuring customers in receiving uninterrupted, high quality electricity supply through an extensive network, in delivering electricity supply to customers under 99.999% supply reliability. The Control Centre is working 24/7. Operation engineers are responsible to perform duties like directing, monitoring and controlling power generation, transmission and distribution of electricity according to the real time situation. They also play a key role in performing works like electricity demand estimation and adequate generation scheduling, as well as working closely with other operational units within CLP Power and regional counterparts, etc.

 

The visit will introduce the background, daily operations and related technologies implemented in maintaining the efficient and smooth operations of the sleepless power grid.
